Liverpool vs Arsenal – Welcome back!

A quick thanks again to Brendan for the last post, brilliant Article mate.

Here’s a quick tribute throwback from our 2014 World Cup parade 😉

As we dust off the dreaded International break and all that came with it, it being injuries, the reds look forward to 3 home games on the bounce, Arsenal Porto and Southampton. Klopp looks to win all 3 including the CL game, arguably and mainly for financial reasons, which should never take precedent over the players health and fitness especially coming up on congestion season. There are a lot of benefits towards playing a second string team, resting key players being one. Anyway, one game at a time I guess.

Looking forward to Arsenal then, a team very much in form out of nowhere. Unbeaten in their last 10 games, winning 8. The emergence of players like Smith-Rowe and inform players like Saka and Auba have injected a new belief in the gunners ranks. Suddenly ending up 2 points behind us before the break. This seems like the perfect time to establish our dominance, a perfect time to get back on the horse and a perfect time to recalibrate our PL campaign. We’ll be missing Firmino these coming weeks, he normally relishes Arsenal at Home, boy when he’s firing the whole front 3 are as well. Undeniably one of our most important players, hopefully a solid run will be on the cards for him in January because it will be required.

A great tibute to watch here of our front 3 doing their thang

So far the season hasn’t been perfect and we came off the wheels in the last game but Klopp has now had a few weeks to try optimize the current team. This season we shifted to more attacking, you can see that by the amount of chances Robbo and Trent have created, but this couldn’t be done without making sure the defence was solid. This is all well and good until we see a big Gini shaped hole in the middle of the park, As good as Fab is (and he’s the best in the world) I think Gini made him better last season with his off the ball work. Hendo and whoever he is partnered with whether it be Ox or Keita are playing more like 2 8’s this season and it shows from assists and goals coming from midfield, which is fine if you have the cover for it.

Upto now it feels like our midfield can be easily passed through compared to last season, Klopp knows this and hasn’t really adjusted. Maybe it’s time for Klopp to go for a 4231 where the front 4 and wingbacks go hell for leather up top knowing we’re a little more shored up at the back if we encounter a counter. Every game this season has been our standard 433 and there hasn’t been one time where he’s changed it up. I’m not saying this is a bad thing, all I’m suggesting is a way to maybe improve our consistency and frankly I’m scraping the barrel for critique but it seems worth trying.

As we welcome the Arse to Anfield we know it’ll be a tough game, but as Ali gave honour to, our fans will be rip roaring once again and will provide the backup the boys need to get back on the winning wagon. A 5 point gap is up for grabs from the top 4 this weekend to the rest of the pack if we can manage it, a solid cushion to build a serious run in through December then we should be evaluating our prospects coming into the Jan window. There is no question we need to go on another winning streak these next 6 weeks just to be contending. Next game is all we focus on now and we need to get the job done.

Player Focus – Tsimikas, we’re pretty lucky to have such a solid back up to Robbo and he’s come on leaps and bounds this season. One to watch on Saturday, a busy day expected as he’ll be simultaneously trying to keep Saka quiet and provide some quality final product for the front 3.

This weekend looks setup to be the most entertaining of the season, lets hope Brenda throws a spanner in the works to start !
