Liverpool vs Porto – Playing for pride and money

Following an utterly satisfying day at Anfield where we provided some timely dominance, with the help of an Arteta strop, we see ourselves in limbo mid-week facing a dead rubber at home to Porto. To give any crowd an excuse to be fired up is nuts but at Anfield it’s suicide and they found out why soon enough.

Okay another $100 up for grabs to anyone who can accurately predict the starting 11 on Wednesday vs Porto.

Klopp, accidently on purpose, provided us fans with a window of transparency when it came to this game, when asked will he be resting players he mentioned he could but at the same time a decent amount of money is on the line when playing CL games whatever situation you’re in. Whilst most agree winning CL games is always a positive thing whether it be for experience, fringe player opportunity, money, qualification etc but to suggest that he’s somewhat pressured into winning the rest of the group games whilst already qualified in 1st place is revealing. In my opinion Klopp would rest every 1st teamer if he could this week, he knows what’s coming and what the winter months demand is and how it can negatively shape a campaign. The hope Wednesday is he rests key players including Salag VVD Allison Fab Mane Hendo TAA. That’s 7 that could do with an extra few days playing darts.

Fringe players could do with a run out against any team, but to be in the CL against a top European side can only provide next level experience which is hard to come by. Every player in the squad has probably though looking at the group stage before the season started.. well, if we qualify in 1st with a game to go i’ll be in with a chance of being rested or played, depending on who you are an equally attractive goal. Which has been accomplished. Klopp picks the teams at the end of the day and he will choose wisely.

We smashed them 5-1 A at the end of September with braces from Firms and Salah, highlights below.
