Liverpool vs Aston Villa – Back to anfield before the Int break !

Well it definitely was a tough test at the toon, arguably our toughest 3 points under Klopp but what a way to grab em. Could be mightily important those. Time will tell and whatever happens in the next game will also help slightly dictate how meaningful it was… after all we’re only as good as our last game as the saying goes!

It was such a resolute performance, tinkered and adjusted throughout the game to tighten everything up and at the end unleash attacking options whilst still maintaining a steady ship in the mid was an example of wizardry tactical genius from Klopp.

After the work Klopp and the players put in both physically and equally mentally they’ll feel some kinda relief and will have taken some deserved downtime. But we have a tough one again this weekend, Villa come to town on Sunday afternoon after a recent convincing win at Burnley. They have their 2nd leg game vs Hibernian tomorrow in the ‘Europa League Conference Playoff’ uhh thing.. which you would think would benefit us however they are 5-0 up so I highly expect Emery to rest his key players. Saw a stat on Villa, they have taken the 2nd most points so far in 2023. Impressive stat that should not be overlooked. He’s got an exciting squad playing with a smile on their faces, although the first game against Newcastle didn’t go to plan they thumped Neverton and won their next 3 games. This match is steeped in History, with Villa playing more matches only with Everton. And we’ve only played more games with Everton Arsenal and Scum. First game with Villa was in 1894 and the head to head for us is W101 D41 L59. Let’s make it 102!

So a tough team sheet to pick for Klopp and as you move up through the formation it’s only going to get harder for him. The Back 5 pick themselves pretty much, think Gomez comes in for Virg alongside Matip followed by Trent and Robbo. Midfield would most likely start with Endo Mac and Szoboszlai (guess which one of those 3 I had to Google to know how to spell, like every bloody time). However, there could be a call for Bajtetic to come into the fold and maybe give Klopp a half or 60 minutes, that could be our go-to midfield this season as Baj is an exceptional player and was pretty much every time he has put on the shirt, bar some mistakes which every player at that age will make but you almost need that in the developmental stage. Thiago or Jones may also be available and Elliot played well last outing but I see Klopp using Elliot more of as impact sub in the short term.

Anyone’s guess for the front three, would love to see an Angry Diaz unleash hell on Villa after being prematurely subbed followed by an inform Nunez , our latest Kop Hero. Then Salah bringing his best.. there’s no overlooking Diogo though after he helped change the whole game last weekend. Gakpo always puts a shift in and I gotta throw Doak in the mix for the last 15. So there’s really no right answer and it’s great to know we have game changers on the bench to bring on.

Salah will start, first name on the teamsheet for most, but was a little mystified when he was brought off few games ago. He’s a pure winner and has done so much for us so long may this unbreakable bond with him continue. One of the most pinpoint and impeccable assists I’ve seen for a long time for Darwins winner it really was a thing of beauty. I hope to fucking christ he doesn’t leave. He is Liverpool.

We have a proper job to do Sunday lads so get the rest in, put the work in ( writing this whilst at a restaurant stuffing my face ) and show ’em what we’re up for this season!!
